Korean Feminism
Korea is a society where a lot of Koreans are devoted Christians (as in Catholicism) and a true Catholic doesn't have premarital sex or if they do they choose to marry it's usually because of unwanted pregnancy. Interestingly enough Korean teens these days say that they already have sexual experience.
Divorced Korean women who wants to remarry are more likely to choose a bachelor rather then a divorcée.
Korean women usually only work until their marriage then they're supposed too stay at home to take care of the household; raise their children and care for their husband.They may return to work once the children start school, and Korean families usually only have two children. They prefer one of each, a daughter and a son. That kind of life sounds pretty boring to me and I'm not likely to accept such a life so easily at least.
South Korean women are apparently more picky when it comes to choosing a husband, they prefer their prospective husband to have a good job with a nice salary while North Korean defector women seems to marry someone disregarding their salary or work.

Korean Dialects
Just like any other language ; Swedish or English the Korea language does of course also have different regional dialects. I witnessed that firsthand when I lived with my onnis a while back, I didn't know it at the time but they apparently spoke some Gyeongsang dialect and when I lived there I carefully tried to memorize a phare here and there. It worked more then fine when I was with my Korean family, but when I was with other native Koreans they either got very surprised or didn't understand what I meant...

- Standard dialect - here and there
- Seoul dialect - Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi (Kaesong as in North Korea)
- Py´õngan dialect - Pyongan & Pyongan region ( Chagang as in North Korea)
- Chungcheon dialect - Daejeon, Chungcheon region
- Gangwon dialect - Gangwon-do (Kangwon as in North Korea)
- Gyeongsang dialect - Busan, Daegu, Ulsan and Gyeongsang region
- Hamgyõng dialect - Rasõn, Hamgyõng region, (Ryanggang as in North Korea)
- Hwanghae dialect - (Hwanghae region as in North Korea)

Some Korean Law
I happened to watch an American show depicting serious crimes the other day and this time the crime was about parental child kidnapping. The couple was an interracial couple the man was Korean and the American and they had a son together, but their marriage didn't last. When the woman seeked divorce and later remarried the ex husband secretly plotted to take their child out of USA and back to his native Korea.
And South Korea is one of the countries that hasn't signed the Hague convention still today in 2012, and by not doing that the country has not agreed to aid the US in case of international child kidnappings... Luckily for this woman she never gave up and after some careful planing she was able to be reunited with her son and they could safely return to the US.
Given the fact that the man was a Korean he would be entitled to custody of the child since he by Korean standards would be the head of the family whereby the woman and his ex wife would have little protection by the law. The man was in fact Korean by birth but adopted to America so he was an ibyang and a KAD.FYI, I don't claim to be an expert on Korean law, let's just say I'd definitely think twice about starting a family with a native Korean...

Korean Family
For those of you who may not have followed this blog I thought I would present my Korean family, my first family...
Oppa, he's the one who's always up to something. He used to be farmer and was once employed by the state.
Omma, I always think's mad or angry but I guess it's how she talks.. She started working after the Collegestudent were born.
Older Unni, she the oldest and she's married with two children.
Brave Unni, she's the second one, she choose to live her family and to get a better life.
Working Unni, she's always working and very busy. She's the third one. Working Unni and Brave Unni helped take care of Older Unni's children.
Kind Unni,she's the fourth one, I know her the best. She has very kind eyes. She's married like Older Unni and Brave Unni. Kind Unni took care of Pretty Unni, Trendy Unni and the Collegestudent while Omma and Appa were working.
Pretty Unni, she's the fifth one she seems to be very busy and working a lot.
Trendy Unni, she's the sixth one she's a lot with Pretty Unni and she shares a flat with Working Unni and Pretty Unni.
The College Student, he's my namdongsaeng (meaning my younger brother) He studies somewhere else, none of my siblings lives with Umma and Appa anymore... That's my Korean family, my first family; who I love tremendously.

Korea's Susan Boyle
Instead of an entry about the Swedish Semmeldag, which is tomorrow I thought I'd like to share something else completely different and unrelated to cooking... I might not be baking as often but we'll have to see about that...
I realize this is a bit old but this guy has an amazing voice and determination. And yes it's Sung Bong Choi, he used to be a homeless orphan boy but now he has held several concerts.
And yes before I forget, this week pupils begins their one week school break it's an annual tradition. It's called Sportlov in Swedish which means you can you use the school break to enjoy out door activities or travel.
And in a few days the annual book sale will start again... Much to look forward to.

The more I stay in Sweden it seems I might only experience creepy and weird things, things that makes me like to live her less then I already do. Of course my life has been good, I'm not complaining at all but now it seems like my lovestory with Sweden is about to reach its end. Or either I have to change in order to don't get this weird and unwanted experiences... I'm really not sure not anymore. I wish I could live Sweden soon, even today but I can't not right now. I know it will not be easy to leave Korea for Sweden ... but it's what I want and I will let nobody stop me from realizing my dream. I am still young, I'd like to experience life before I might settle down and possibly start a family. I won't settle for less I'd hate myself to death if I allowed someone to trick me into something just for their own good not because of love but because of what they wanted from me.

Old Boy
I'm certainly not spoiled when it comes to watching Korean movies on TV on Swedish television... But it seems as if the Swedish channel SVT1 either have changed their minds or Korean movies must be really good. Either way Old boy is the second Korean movie that I've seen on Swedish TV since getting back from my Korea trip last summer...
And the plot for Old boy is even more complicated then Lady Vengeance, a lot of adult scenes even incest and you don't really understands who takes revenge on who. Old friends turns to enemies which causes death in the end. But it is a really interesting movie even though I might be partial - again. Unfortunately I missed the first segment in this three part movie, the one I havn't watched is Sympathy for Mr Vengeance.
In Korean the names of these movies are :

Lady Vengeance
I happened to stay up really late the other and bumped into the Korean movie Sympathy for Lady Vegeance. I watched the entire movie just because it was Korean, and well to be honest the first impression of the movie was a bit confussing to say the least. And one subplot in the movie revolves around adoption.
Maybe not surprising, I don't know. There's also violence, blood, death and adult scenes in it. But I must say I was surprised to see a Korean movie in the Swedish TV guide. If I'm up and awake still, I'll probably watch another Korean movie (in the middle of the night).

A Lifetime
24 years can change a person quite a lot, it's like a lifetime. So why did I imagine that I'd instantly be able to connect with my sisters ? Because we seemed to get on so well the year before, but that time we really didn't get to spend that much time with one another. I still love my older sisters almost more than life itself. I'd defend them and protect them whenever there's a need, it might seem strange but I love them so.
My oldest onni is 40 and my youngest onni is one year older than I am. That's a huge age gap apparently, which I guess should mean that they have different values (as should be expected), but no that does not seem to be the case. You see my sisters have all helped out raising each other so they all share the same values more or less. I thought that we instantly connect and be able to understand each other that we sort of shared a secret link or hade organism running through our vienes just because we're sisters.
I thought I'd be able to understand them and relate to them, because it's what I wanted to. But I wasn't raised by our parents , I was not brought up with them I never learned to speak Korean... so it's harder than I thought. Korean women , generally have toys do what's obey orders, do as they are told and always do what's expected of them. The only thing I know for sure is this; they are sorry they never had a chance to get know me as a toddler, sorry they missed out on a big part of my life. They were raised in a big household I on the other hand was a lonely child for many years, they always had each other while I always seemed to get attention from my mum and dad.
They love me because I'm one of them I know that because that's how I was treated. I love them equally just as much, I'm just sorry I still struggle to get to know them now 25 years later. But we're all sisters and young women that all wants to find love and happiness and I know they'd like nothing else for me than to be happy whatever that would mean.
My oldest namdongseng is someone I feel a great deal of respect for, I respect each and every one in my Korean family. Thay are just as important as the family that raised maybe even more. I think they're all proud of me because I live in Europe and Sweden which to them is something to be proud of. I only wish the 25 years I spent in Sweden hadn't washed away the Koreaness which I was born with back in the days. Maybe things will become easier when I've learned more Korean a promise I made to the same brother. Don't feel bad or guilty anymore because I love you all so and I'm so greatful and happy that I found you in this lifetime. Nothing else matters to me.

Thinking Of You
How are you doing, I hope all are well. I am extremely sorry for all the commotion , drama and worry that I might have created. To be fare I've never experienced something like that before not even close, of course I did met you two years ago with my Swedish parents but can't compare to this latest experience.
Honestly speaking, I behaved and may have acted out of character because I felt so strange and strong feelings and reacted to every impression on the spot and very differently than I ever imagined. I hope there's a way for you to forgive me for all the heartache, pain and tears I might have caused.
I hope you still think of me as your sister, and maybe that we one day will be able to see each other again. If it's going to take the rest of my life, I'm determined to show you how devoted I am to each and everyone. My only brother, my six older sisters and my nieces and nephews as well as brother-in-laws. I love you all equally as much and I hope I havn't screved up too much.
Hoping that 2012 will be a better year, and I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me. If it will mean I have to read 1000 books about Korea or study Hangul and Korea for 25 years I'll do it on the spot without as much as a blink, if I only could be promised that it would help us understand each other and grow closer.

Then And Now
Who is this little baby ? Well, the little baby is actually me, believe it or not.

Samsung & Hyundai
Hyundai's newest edition is as far as I know called Veloster and while Hyundai continues to produce cars Samsung is trying to conquer the world... It seems like they make almost everything !!! And the best thing is of course that they're both Korean brands. And no I'm not partial or taking sides here, what would make you say that !?
