I know that Korean cuisine is becoming more and more popular, and I thought it could be fun and useful to get to know the Hangul names for some of the most popular dishes and also some of my personal favorites ^^

씸닭(Dak galbi). Made from diced chicken that is stir fried, with chili pepper paste, cabbage, sweet potatoe, scallions and rice cakes. Popular Chuseok dish. Does not contain ribs from chicken. Very inexpensive dish.

In this blog you may get a sense of what it means to be Korean or maybe a percieved illusion. But also a sense of what it means to be not only adopted but reunited as well. Sometimes I write about Sweden where I grew up and also about cooking and baking - because I enjoy it! Also take note that all pictures here belong to me unless stated otherwise. Let's Go Nuts
I completely forgot to publish pictures from Christmas baking, but I finally remembered it.
Above is the Gingerbread Pie which isn't made off gingerbread doough btw.
The last picture above, is of the homemade marsipan which was an intended Christmasgift but I messed up a little when I made them. Doesn't they look colourful but toxic? They were actually really tasty.

Christmas Candy
This Christmas I so far have made Saffron Biscuits; and Saffron Buns which may not be considered to be Christmas Candy although they are really sweet because of the sugar. I will also make my own marsipan this year, I'm stepping up the high gear and maybe also the traditional Chocolate Truffles. Something that is just as delicious as sweets are nuts so we'll have spicy nuts also and they are much more healthy.
For the actual Christmas Eve dinner I thought I'd try making Gingerbread Pie and at least two kinds of truffles. This year I'm the one making most of the Christmas preparations...
Pictures will come soon...

Humble Pie
I recently made a Chocolate Pie for Father's Day so maybe you could say it's a Humble Pie, because Chocolate is supposed to make you happy and if you're happy you're nicer, right?

It's going to be Christmas soon, and in Sweden there's a saying that a Gingerbread cookie makes you nice.
Ta en pepparka så att du blir snäll.I do believe everyone deserves a second chance, and you shouldn't be to fast when judging people. Or why judge them at all but ultimately we all could use a piece of humble pie now and again.... Even me and I don't think it makes me a bad person...

Summer in a nutshell strawberries with plain yoghurt, yummy !!!
My two different jams on sourdough bread another very tasty culinary delicacy if you ask me. Last picture sweet pizza with sweet Italian cheese (forgot the name of it) raspberries and chocolate. The original recepie was a little different.
Oh and the other month I had a big problem with strange insects called Indian Flour Moot, really annoying. I guess there's one of the downsides if you bake or cook a lot... Although the original source seems not to have been flour, but more likely ordinary birdseeds bu t I must say that these little buggers are extremly persistent and they seem to especially like organic produce but if given a chance will spread to anything like sugar, seeds, cocoa powder etc.

Chocolate Cupcakes & Whoopies
Bellov you'll see links to Chocolate Cupcake recepies, that I wish I could try one day.The only recepies I havn't tried this far are the Black Bottom recepie because my parents are away so there's no one to bake too, and the other one would be the Giradelli one because it's impossible to find that kind of chocolate bars and chips over here.
The reason for this lighter entry is that I didn't go to bed last night, I was baking another sour dough bread and for that reason didn't go to bed until 5 AM or closer to 6 AM. But don't worry I'll be blogging as normal tomorrow...
I saw a Swedish cooking show the other day where they made whoppies (not Whoppie Goldberg) some kind of cake with filling in the middle maybe it resembles macroons somewhat. I might be making that soon...

Ultimate Test Of Dedication
What's an ultimate test of dedication ?
Yes, it could be having an infant or baby to care for or a pet perhaps. But what do you do before that? Before you know if you're ready for such a big commitment ?

It's some kind of dough with extremly long preparation time... can you guess what it's going to become? Did you really think I would stop baking just because it's summer !?
Please don't read to much in to this entry (a child can't compare to a pet or plant I know that, it's supposed to be a little bit silly. ) Hopefully nobody is offended by the comparison.... Small hint this concuction is supposed to be healthier (why I will reveal soon enough...)

Korean Bread Recepies
- Soboro Bread 소보로 빵 (Chinese Pineapple Bread, sound familiar ?)
- Sesame Tapioca Bread link to recepie here
- Korean Mochi Bread recepie here
Are there any more Korean (bread) recepies out there ?
Have anyone of you tried to make the Soboro bread, Sesame Tapioca Bread or Korean Mochi bread?
The few different types of Korean bread I've tried aren't many and I think I was a bit disapointed by the strong sweet taste... Apparently there's a really popular bakery chain in Korea now called Paris Baguette which I think (I'm not sure) is an American chain...
I'm not sure if there are myself... Oh, yeah that reminds me apparently there's a Swedish caffeé Fika
in Seoul these days. Of course us Swedes, can enjoy a tasty Cinnemon bun as well as a yummy Semla (Lengthen Bun). Although I most confess I've never visited that place so I'm not sure if it really tastes like home....
Why is it so that I've so far failed to find Korean bread recepies maybe because Korean's don't eat bread... And just for the record I havn't eaten any bread for a year now... I seriously doubt I will get a chance to bake this since I'm not eactly eating anything of what I make. Secondly it seems to sweet for anyone in family to even consider trying...
But it sure is tempting, and what about when in Rome do as the Roman do...

Cake Pops
Can you really be sure if something is safe ? I don't believe that anything would be 100 % that's picture perfect, to good to be true. Is the facebook scam a romour or actually true?
What do you get if you you mix cake with a popsickle/lollipop ? Find the answer here.
Correct answer : a cake pop.
What's a cake pop then ? Well it's cookie dough on a stick that is glaced with frosting, melted chocolate or whatever sweet.
If liqourice is the new it then what about cake pops with liquorice taste ...?
Here's how to make 'em and by the way the pictures in this post isn't of cake pops it's everything else.

Korean Cuisine
I really like to keep my link to Korea fresh in my mind and I've been considering weither or not I should try to cook some Korean cuisine. This is a big challenge for me since I for one don't know any authentic reciepes. Furthermore, not one of my family members are especially appricative of Korean cuisine except for 갈비 Kalbi/galbi and 삼겹살 Samgyeopsal. I have tried to make my own interpretation of Bibimbap and also fastfood noodles which I add a raw egg in while hot and mix with stirr fried vegetables. Really yummy and the closest I can come to ramen noodles, I suppose. So who would eat it if I cooked it?
I honestly believed we had passed this stage by now, but I seem to have been mistaken. Last week I had another exam and on top of that I have a re-exam in a few days. Since I felt like I needed to prepare for my test instead of going to my class I decided to stay home and study. When dad came home he became really, really annoyed with me for skipping school which isn't compulsory by the way. I tried to explain it to him but he replayed with something about me quiting the entire course and then he sort of forced me into promising that I would attend next class. Hello !? I'm over 20 by now not 10, so is there anything wrong with this picture .... ?
Do you end up in these kind of arguments with your parents ? How can you get out of them ?

© Taste of Kimchi, Elle
The picture above as well as the ones below is as you might have guessed some kind of bread, probably
Italian... Can anyone guess what this dough will become ? Focus on the Italian bit here.
Almost done all you need now is to shape it before its going in the owen... Oh, it's a very famous Italian bread one that is suited for picnicks and outings and works excellent as a lunch.

Candy Land
The recepie for these ingredients can be found here
First batch of Cinnemon Rolls for 2011.
This chocolaty treat is named Rocky Road like the ice cream, same ingredients as in the first picture.
I've also attempted to make Key Lime Pie, which really isn't that sweet, if you exclude the sweet vanilla cream... And since I can't get Key Limes, I used regular green limes and changed the sweetened milk to 1/2 milk 2/3 cream instead...
By the way it's not supposed to look that, but the taste was nice...

Kitchen Experiments á la Julia Child
Happy White Day (or Black Day for those of you who are singles, involuntary or intentionally)... And it might be hard to feel happy in times like this, relating to the current situation in Japan. I feel for you, but I can't say that I really know what its like... It is still White Day today despite the current situation although I'm not sure how many will celebrate this date this year...
As you might know by now I do enjoy baking both bread and pastries but I also do fancy cooking, so this will be my first post ever of food and recepies. But unfortunately I havn't found any recepies for black food (seeing that it's Black Day) do you happen to know any recepies of black food ?
After some thinking I remember that we have some black Swedish typical food; blodpudding black pudding and kalops Scotch kallops...
In terms of kitchen icons I would say that Julia Child did much to increase the popularity of cooking and especially French food. I am a big fan of cooking movies like No Reservations featuring Catherine Zeta Jones, Eat, Pray , Love with Julia Roberts, Its Complicated featuring Meryl Streep which also held the main part in Julie and Julia, the movie about none other than Julia Child.
So my first kitchen experiments resulted in something as peculiar as Cheese Icecream and Chocolate Soup with Chocolate Parfait, sorry there's no link any recepies I've got from a Swedish book. And by the way the Icecream recepie is a Swedish recepie.
Here's a link to Chocolate Soup recepie but it's not the one I used, and yes another Swedish recepie.

Another Day Another Cupcake
First picture above is of Peanut Butter Cupcakes, notice the peanutty colour ? Recepie found here. Receipe for these Chocolate Cupcakes has a secret ingredients; two kinds of Toffee sweets. Recepie found here .
I also made Cream Filled Cupcakes, which didn't turn out so well although flavourwise they were really tasty according to my dad. And I didn't bother making frosting like the reciepe said I should... The reason why it failed could be due to the fact that I converted the measurements to the meatric system or maybe I should have made larger dough...
Mini Cheesecake III , was really quick and easy to make. Not too sweet either.
The picture below is of Red Velvet Cupcakes , which is similar too Red Velvet Cake but in cupcake shape. The frosting was like the icing on the cake really.
Even though I like baking and cooking, I never bake the same thing twice with some exceptions of course. And no, I wasn't tempted to try this. I prefer baking over eating actually... This post is also the only insights you'll get in my daily events...
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the Chocolate Cupcakes recepies is a Swedish recepie... This post was originally published in 23th at 23:55...

Let's Make Some Piece Of Cake
Yesterday and earlier today it started snowing heavilly in Sweden as always when this happens it's chaos. Hopefully it will have stopped snowing tomorrow, I hope it does since I will be attending a Korean New Year's Party then...
Today I made my first attempt of Red Velvet Cake , you know the real Red Velvet Cake from the US... and also since it's Valentine's Day on Monday something kind of Swedish; Vanilla Hearts . Home made, and my dad also requested long time ago that I would make another Lemon Meringue Pie which I did. I almost forgot; the recepies used are in Swedish...
Is this blog turning into a food and cooking blog ? No, I assure you that it's not it just happens to be one of the many things I enjoy doing. And no baking sweets isn't really Korean, not Korean at all... but I will continue baking and occassionally publish my latest attempts in the kitchen.

The Vanilla Hearts looks like hearts but on the other side and they were delicious... not that I tried them. Next time I'm considering making my own custard as filling, this time I cheated a bit and used the ready made custard only adding milk.
